Salvador Dalí (1904 – 1989)

Spanish-Catalan artist who became one of the most important painters of the 20th century. A skilled draftsman, he is best known for his surrealist work identified by its striking, bizarre, dreamlike images. His painterly skills were influenced by the Renaissance masters. An artist of great imagination, Dalí had an affinity for doing unusual things to draw attention to himself. This sometimes irked those who loved his art as much as it annoyed his critics, since his eccentric manner sometimes overshadowed his artwork in public attention.
Salvador Dali was an active artist in many areas: apart from the paintings he created a scene for Hitchcock's movie "Spellbound", made photos with Man Ray, designed dresses for Elsa Schiaparelli and decors for Les Ballets Russes.
